Smiling StarKelly Mill Extraordinary Student

We are excited to share with you our Kelly Mill Extraordinary Student (K.M.E.S.) Program for 2017-18.  This program began the year our school was founded in 2012, and our goal is to continue its development each year, as we continue the development of our students.

What does the K.M.E.S. program do?

It recognizes those Colts who set a daily example through their words and actions – students who show integrity and responsibility as they engage with peers, teachers and staff; those who exhibit noteworthy characteristics like honesty, compassion, self-discipline,  perseverance and tolerance.  You only need to look at our mascot,COLTS, to be reminded of other attributes such as Character, Organization, Leadership and Trustworthiness that we all hold in high esteem.  Why?  Every one of these traits is important in developing collaborative learners and outstanding citizens, and every day, students at Kelly Mill have opportunities to demonstrate these traits.  We want to recognize those Colts who rise to those occasions.

Therefore, every month, our homeroom teachers will identify one student from each class to be recognized for the extraordinary characteristics he or she has demonstrated on a consistent basis.  Each student will be recognized on stage and have their photograph taken with their peers and our principal.   The PTO will also give our Extraordinary Students a spirit stick and  certificate with their name on it that will reflect their achievement.  In addition, each child will receive  a certificate for a free kids’ meal to a local restaurant and the PTO will donate a book to the Media Center in honor of each grade, with a special name plate listing each student.

WHAT DAY IS THE EXTRAORDINARY STUDENT CEREMONY?

The PTO recognizes our Extraordinary Students at the a ceremony every 3rd Thursday of each month from September through April.  Our ceremony starts at 7:40 on those mornings.

Please contact our Extraordinary Student Chairpersons, Susan Goodman and Michelle DiFranco with any additional questions you may have.
